Machu picchu is one of the top 10 attractive places in the world, it was a citadel built by the Inca civilization on the XV century, nowadays we can visit and see a big part of the original construction, thousands of people get there daily and feel as they would be in the past.

The Historic Sanctuary of Machu picchu covers 32.592 has. and most part of its area belongs to the high jungle and the rest to the highlands; this means there is a great variety of animals and plants in different ecological zones.

Machu picchu means “The old Peak” and is one of the highest mountains of the area, the altitude of the Inca citadel is 2490 m.a.s.l. and the average temperature is 15 – 20 °C, there are some important mountains around the citadel, Putucusi, Huayna picchu and Machu picchu Mountain, these last two are to the north and to the south respectively.

There are different ways to get there, The Classic Inka Trail is the most popular where the environment with flora and fauna, the archaeology and the impressive landscapes help to walk without getting tired, another good tour to do on the way to Machupicchu is The Salkantay trek where the second highest snow capped peak please all the power that you wear down walking for approximately 8 hours per day, The Inka Jungle trek is another one, this is an adventure trip which includes Downhill Biking, River Rafting, Hiking and Zip Line, The Lares trek is another one which mixes the hiking activity plus the transportation by train, travelling for approximatelly 2 hours to Aguas Calientes or Machu picchu town and enjoying the best landscapes through the high mountains.

The Huayna picchu Mountain is one of the main places of the Machu picchu Sanctuary, currently the access to the mountain is limited, there are only 400 people who can perform the ascent per day and is divided into two groups, 200 in the first round which starts from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and the second from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The ascent lasts approximately 45 minutes through a rather narrow road which is very important that the person who will carry out the ascent must be in very good physical condition and not suffer from vertigo.

At the control of Huayna picchu Mountain, the national or foreigner tourist must keep the printed ticket for the mountain in the established schedule and indicated in the ticket next to the identity document with which the reservation was made.

And finally, the cost of the ticket to ascend to Huayna picchu Mountain is added to the ticket that you will buy for the complex of Machu picchu, the amount to increase is according to the disposition of the entities in charge, for the moment is 20.00 usd.
