Description:

The Rainbow Mountain has now become as the second most important tourist attraction in our region, its impressive landscape, glaciers, the pigmentation of the earth's crust, llamas and alpacas complement this attraction and make it very unusual.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco - Cusipata - Rainbow Mountain - Cusco

Pick up from the hotel 5:00am. we go with our transport to the community of CUSIPATA by paved road approximately 1:30 hours, then continue along the Cusipata branch for a space of 30 minutes more, until arriving at the Town of CHILLIHUANI village, where we will pass through picturesque places like TINTINKO, RIO TIGRE, we will observe the Mountain of Surina for the LLACTO village, then I will pass the control of the Municipality of CUSIPATA, in the place you can appreciate the flora and fauna in their natural habitat. (Llamas, Alpacas, Vicunas, etc.). Where we will continue our journey along a dirt road for about 20 minutes until we reach the starting point of our walk.

Rainbow Mountain via Cusipata New Short TrailNext already prepared we began our adventure towards the Mountain of Colors for 1 hour and a half approximately, where we can appreciate panoramic views such as the Red Valley and Mountains with Nevado del Ausangate and small lagoons, where we will have lunch and we will be able to appreciate and Take pictures of the Mountain of Colors. Then we will begin to descend to our starting point for 1 hour and a half approx. Our transport will be waiting for us there. Then return to Cusco for 2 hours approx. Where will we arrive at 5:00 p.m. and we will leave you at your hotel End of our services.

Hike to Red Valley:

The Red Valley is not part of the traditional Rainbow Mountain tourist circuit, however, our program includes the hike to this place, it is a very harmonious space, beautiful views and totally different from the Rainbow Mountain, the entrance tickets are included in the price of the program.

It is very important to keep in mind that it will take 1 additional hour to go and return to the Red Valley, if the hike to the Rainbow Mountain was demanding, it is better to consult with your guide and coordinate this.

Horse Back Riding:

To hire a horse for the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain, follow these steps:

  • Book in Advance or On-Site: You can arrange a horse through a tour agency in Cusco or hire one directly from locals at the trailhead at the beginning of the hike.
  • You can negotiate the Price: Prices range from 80–100 soles (20– 30 Usd.) round trip. Bargaining is common.
  • Hire a local horseman: Most horses come with a horseman who walks alongside. They don't speak much English, so basic Spanish or gestures help.
  • Start Early: Arrive early (before 7 AM) for better availability, especially in peak season.
  • Cash Only: highgly recommended to bring Peruvian soles, as card payments aren’t accepted.
  • Know the Limitations: Horses take you most of the way but not the final steep section, which requires walking.

ATV Quad Biking:

ATV rentals for Rainbow Mountain tours are available through Cusco-based tour agencies, booking in advace is needed. The tour includes transport to Japura or Pitumarca, where you ride an ATV for 1–1.5 hours to the base of the mountain, then a short 30 to 40 minutes hike is required to reach the summit.
