The Salkantay Tour has become as one of the main routes to Machu Picchu, nowadays hundreds of tourists from different countries do this trek, the Salkantay Mountain is one of the most spectacular views to see, that comes to be the second highest peak of Cusco "6271 masl", great landscapes are also what you enjoy.
The tour begins picking you up from your hotel at the predetermined time, usually around 5:00 in the morning, we will drive for 2 and a half hours approximately in a private tourist transport towards the district of Mollepata, place where we will supply breakfast spending like 40 minutes there, we continue driving for 1 more hour to Soraypampa, base of our first night and place where we can leave part of our belongings. The hike to Humantay “a stunning turquoise lake and the snowcapped mountain” is the next adventure on this day, this will take us 4 hours approximately.
The day ends in our base at Soraypampa, where a satisfying lunch and dinner are provided.
This will be one of the most difficult days of the whole tour, because we have to hike up to the highest point of the route "Salkantay Pass 4613 masl" it lasts 3 hours approximately, plenty of beautiful views along the way are part of our journey, a needed rest for some minutes then we will descend towards the jungle, we will feel the change of environment quite abrupt along this downhill section so it is essential to take some coca leaves for altitude sickness, we will arrive at Huayrac, place where we will have lunch for an hour then we will continue hiking down to Chaullay “Base of our second night”.
It was a long journey, hiking for 8 hours more or less, more than 20 kilometers covered on this day but the sensation to pass the most difficult section of the tour makes us satisfying.
This day is basically characterized by the amount of vegetation that can be seen, plantations of coca, tea, coffee, fruit trees and wildlife will be part of our walk along the 6 hours of hiking to Lucmabamba, some time to enjoy the delicious lunch provided by our professional Chef then an optional trip to the Cocalmayo hot springs could be the next (the best of our region and great to relax after the arduous hike), not included in our package price but your tour guide is agree to help and organize it, it can take about 4 extra hours.
After breakfast, our hike to Llactapata will be magic and pleasurable, the ascent takes 3 hours approximately and once there we will have the amazing view of Machu Picchu far in the distance, meanwhile we can enjoy the delicious box lunch, the following will be the descent to the village of Hidroelectrica where we can catch the train to Aguas Calientes or hike until there. A nice hotel rest and a shower wait for us.
