The Tambopata Reserve 4d/3n program including the visit of the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick and the Sandoval Lake, is one of the best options for those visitors who enjoy and love nature to the fullest, a special program which connects the environment and the visitor, 4 days could be enough to visit the best places in this area of the Peruvian Amazon.
This beautiful program begins by picking you up either from your respective hotel, airport or bus terminal in the City of Puerto Maldonado, from there we go to our office to carry out the necessary documentation and explain the itinerary of the entire program.
After that we will drive along a road towards the river port of Tambopata, then by a small boat we will travel for approximately 1 hour until we reach our lodge, located close to the Tambopata River. The views along the trip will be magnificent and unique, the beautiful landscape will make you fall in love with the natural environment.
The reception by our staff at the lodge will be quite warm, a soft drink made from natural fruits will be the first taste to enjoy, the place chosen for your stay during the night will be quite cozy.
The local lunch will be part of the welcome to our lodge, your tour guide together with the staff will make you feel at home.
In the afternoon of this day, we will have an introductory walk of the Amazon jungle, land animals and plants in their natural habitat will be the main attractions to see; amphibians, arachnids, reptiles, insects, as well as medicinal plants.
At the end of the day, dinner awaits us and then we go to our room and rest to be ready for the next day.
For this day, we have organized to wake up very early, we leave the lodge at 4:30 in the morning and by our boat we travel for 1 hour and 30 minutes to the “Chuncho” Clay Lick, on the way we will have the opportunity to see some mammals such as Capybaras "Largest rodents in the world", Amazonian Tapirs and even having the luck of seeing the great Jaguar, also enjoying the sunrise from the river.
Once we arrive at our destination, we will be pleased to see hundreds of parrots and macaws, without a doubt, that was the reason why we started early this day, our specialist guides in the Amazon jungle will be in charge of explaining the reason why this species agglomerates in that place.
Following to the sight of the diversity of parrots and macaws we will have a picnic breakfast, after the delicious breakfast we will start our return trip to Puerto Maldonado and from there to our next lodge "Monte Amazonico", the trip will this time be along the Madre de Dios River, one of the main tributaries of the great Amazon River. Once installed in the lodge we will have a delicious lunch.
The afternoon of this day will be to make the tour through the Monkeys Island, a quite important space in the Tambopata Reserve, since it is there where hundreds of monkeys reside in their natural appearance, howlers, capuchins and friars are some of the species that we will be able to see, many of them will welcome us with their loud howl when noticing our presence. Once we have enjoyed this place, we head back to the lodge, we will have dinner and be ready for our next adventure.
The day ends with the night excursion by boat looking for the White Caimans, our specialist guide will use the necessary means to easily locate them and, if possible, capture them for their respective explanation and then let them go.
We will return to the lodge and rest in our room.
Our day begins having breakfast early in the morning, then we will take the boat to the Sandoval Lake Control Center, the boat trip is just 30 minutes and after that we will start our walk towards Sandoval Lake, that is considered as one of the largest lakes in the Tambopata Reserve, for this walk we will have a properly cleaned and sanitized pair of rubber boots available, we will need them since the surface of the walk is quite muddy, which walking with our travel shoes would be a very bad idea. The journey will take us an average of 1 hour to reach the Lake and once there we will take one of the boats to sail around the lake, our views will be unique and spectacular, the most attractive will be the population of Giant Otters, then the Piranhas and through the bushes we will see varieties of birds such as Hoatzins, Cormorants, Herons, Vultures and more.
Our return to the lodge will be the same way how we arrived at the Sandoval Lake and once we arrive, our lunch will be ready then we can take a short break.
The day still goes on having the night walk around our lodge, we will go to look for insects, arachnids, amphibians and reptiles that can only be seen at night, so it is very essential to have a hand or head torch.
We end the day with our dinner then the rest.
This last day begins with the tree climbing through an adapted structure, we will carry out the canopy activity between the gigantic trees that we have very close to our lodge, we will be able to enjoy a beautiful landscape from the top, the savannah of trees will also make us to enjoy varieties of birds especially the exotic ones.
After the activity, we will have our breakfast then we will start our boat trip towards one of the small rivers that the reserve has, this is a place where we will practice the Artisanal Fishing activity, we can also have the opportunity to see varieties of fish in their natural habitat.
We will return to the lodge to have a delicious and typical lunch then we will take a walk through the jungle to see more species of animals.
The program finishes with the farewell of all the work team in the lodge and we will take the boat back to the City of Puerto Maldonado.
